De-Cluttering and Beef Stew

What do these  have in common?

Nothing, except that I was doing both today – removing clutter andIMG_9057 making dinner. It’s been a busy start to 2012 with lots of indoor tasks as we try to downsize and clear out some accumulated STUFF that Grenville posted about earlier this month. And, we’re trying to keep the house elves and their friends from bringing in any more STUFF !

Our dinners have been quick and easy ones. Today’s dinner was crock-pot beef stew. It’s a favorite repeat of a  basic stew recipe from this booklet that came with my first crock-pot. It’s an easy recipe that you can customize by adding vegetables that you enjoy. I added beans and corn from last summer’s garden.
IMG_9059As for the de-cluttering project, it’s been ongoing since we returned home from our post-holiday road trip. As soon as several bags are filled with STUFF, they go into the back of the Jeep for delivery to local thrift stores the following day. It’s important to get STUFF out of the house as soon as it’s collected, so nothing can escape and get back in.

Favorite teddy bears were stuffed into containers for storage.

When trying to get lots of things done, time really DOES goes by fast . . . and now I’m really OUT of thyme.IMG_8973
Hope that your January is going well, whatever is taking up YOUR time – we would enjoy hearing about it.

The beef stew looks good. I bet it was great, especially on a cold day like we had today. Good luck with getting rid of the clutter. I wish I had more time to do that here.

The beef stew sounds good. I've been talking about making some - guess I'll do it now!

Hmmm, beef stew. Sounds like a plan.
Decluttering, another good plan!
Fortunately, I have friends who bring me rocks. With 4 acres, I have lots of room to store them! But I do keep the ones from Peaks Island on the coffee table.

Would love to have a bowl of your stew! We have heavy rain today and beef stew sounds so good to me.

It is a constant battle keeping clutter down. Best wishes!

So that is the secret, get the bags out of the house before something escapes. I will keep that in mind. I put them in the garage and I guess I wait too long as those tricky items jump out and find their way back inside.

Looks like you are keeping busy decluttering, I wish you strength.

I have a boiled beef dinner going, hope it is ready before I go in. This is a meal that can taste good the next day.

We are in the same mode...packing and getting rid of stuff! I was going to take some bags and boxes to the thrift store today too. But the Littles came earlier than expected so it will wait.

The beef stew sounds great! I have a turkey meatloaf ready for dinner and a chicken cooking for another day.

So that's how stuffed bears hibernate!

I'll probably envy you after the move but not so much at the present moment.

You've reminded me to get out the crockpot again. I love it, especially in winter. Thanks.

Hi Daisy, Mona, Possum, the beef stew was good but will be even better as leftovers, especially since rain is forecast all day on Friday. Thanks, Daisy for the luck with de-cluttering which is slow going, but going, going and gone!

Hi Mildred, come right on over for leftovers and we will also provide some rain.

Yes, Tammy the secret is to GET the STUFF out of the house before it can escape back in and thank goodness we don't have a garge. Thanks for the good wishes too.

Steve, not sure what boiled beef is but will take your word on its being better the next day as most meals are to us.

Doris, it's a great feeling getting the clutter out and going to good causes where someone else can get more stuff. Your meatloaf dinner reminded me it's time for one here soon.

Ludwig...it's where all our stuffed bears hibernate?

Hey AC, we hope to envy ourselves too, but you most likely went through this process as well. We are not missing any of the give-aways to date.

Thanks Nezzy for the well wishes. Our bears were hiding around the house as well.

ENjoy your crockpot dinner, Ginnie. We keep ours on the countertop now to "remember" to use it often.

I do like using the crockpot when you've got a busy day. When dinnertime rolls around you have a luscious meal all ready.

I have been working on decluttering too. January is such a perfect time for that, especially with all the cold days we've been having. I've just bagged up a bunch of books to go away. They are not in the back of my Jeep yet--I hope none have escaped!
