Garden to Go

Yup that’s what Grenville is busy packing as I compose this post. TheIMG_6622 hot and humid weather that’s hitting so many other parts of the U.S. is here on the VA eastern shore.  It’s   resulted in a bounty of veggies, so . . .

Since we will be on a 2-week road trip visiting our new granddaughter (Elizabeth) and the older (4-1/2) grandson (Bobby) the veggies are travelling along for distribution to family and friends in NJ, CT and RI.

It’s the shop-at-home concept, sort of . . .

IMG_6621Grenville mentioned something about towing a produce cart behind the Jeep advertising “Fresh Veggies.”

Sure glad he re-thunk that idea !

Of course, we will keep blogging along the way (don’t we always). There’s upcoming visits to museums, aquariums, and fire stations  PLUS train rides. Grenville has already scoped out scenic railways in New England.

Meanwhile, if anyone needs some fresh veggies, there’s still some pickin’ left at the Frog & PenguINN veggie garden. Take what you need and leave the rest.

Hi Beatrice...What in the world is Lois thinking ...very cool I don't think so lol
Drive safe and I am glad Grenville changed his mine on the veg cart...don't want any road rage over people trying to get the Zucchini's!!! lol
Safe trip ...and hug and cuddle that that little one!!!

Just one question: How in the world did you talk Food Lion into using paper instead of plastic? I prefer them because they don't let our groceries roll all over the cargo area in the Expedition. Paper sacks are also great for breading chicken but ask a bagger for paper in our area and they look at you as if you just sprouted another head.

I like that John Deere wagon!

I'm glad to hear your garden is doing so well. Your relatives will be glad to get the home-grown produce I'm sure! Have a nice trip and enjoy your visit. :-)

Wish I was close enough to take some of those veggies from you! There's nothing better than garden fresh. I agree with the post on paper bags. Same here in Rochester. They look at you like you are some kind of freak if you ask for paper bags. Enjoy your trip!

Hi Folks, a quick update cause it's been a long trip to RI (10 hrs) from the VA eastern shore with an overnight stop in NJ and veggie deliveries in NJ, CT, and RI.
Lois & Grammie G if you were on the way we could have included a couple more deliveries :-)
Chip & Sherry, the local Food Lion regularly bags in plastic bags, but has the paper bags available IF customers request them. Usually we shop with reusable cloth sacks, but pick up some paper bags for use when baking especially when doing cookies at the holidays nd as Chip said they do come in handy when cooking too.
Chip & John, Grenville painted the wagon in JDeere colors.
Thanks AC, Daisy, Mona, Cicero for the well wishes.

Have fun on your trip! Every thing this way is drying up with no rain. Water is deeply treasured, so not watering on the grounds as well. It would be nice to have all of those fresh veggies around! Blessings, Kathleen

Hi Diana, the basil pesto recipe is a good use for over-producing basil. Ours is all used now and the recent hot weather has cut down on any new growth that's for sure. Hope you had good travels. We're on the road now too.

Thanks Kathleen, the veggies all went to family and we're enjoying some in our extended stay hotel as well. Sure hope you get some much-needed rain relief soon.
