Spring’s a Coming?

barn-greenhouseYes, it was just another spring winter day here on the VA eastern shore. WAIT, I checked the calendar and it’s March 27 can this be right?

Just 2 days ago, Grenville was out spreading the sh**  manure. Maybe he spread a little too much?

We enjoyed dinner on the front porch a week or so ago and were looking forward to some porch rocking this week.

And, we even posted about spring having arrived. What a surprise to see the the daffodils were still in bloom – but frozen this morning.

Luckily, these were picked on Saturday and we are enjoying them indoors, where it’s warm.

Lots of other plants were surprised this morning, including these. The pine trees were the only ones that didn’t seem to mind.

The birds seemed confused and chilly at the snowfall and 30-degree morning temps. The feeders were kept busy after a quick refill.

DSCF1365There were also those who preferred to dine alone.

The snow is already melted and the sun is out. It’s like that here on the eastern shore – if you don’t like the current weather, wait a little while and it will change.

Hi Beatrice....Was that a surprise..or had it been in the forecast???
This time of year when the temp's are all over the place rain could be snow and snow could be rain!!lol
The flowers look so sad, hope there not hurt any!!
Great photo though, especially like the one of the finches!!
Well I haven't put away those snowshoes yet, perhaps I better keep them handy!! lol

Great post! Love your photos. We still have winter here. 28 degrees today with a cold east wind, and we still have lots of snow.

Oh those poor daffodils! Great photos, Beatrice! :)

It isn't unusual for snow to fall on daffodils. I've taken pictures of snow on daffodils most years here in PA, as well as in NJ and MD other places I have lived. LOVE the picture of the butterfly!

It's likely that we'll get another snowfall or two, but winter is basically over here.

Hi Everyone, the snow while a bit unexpected when we awoke this a;.m. was gone by noon. It did come down steadily for quite awhile.

LOIS, yes it will continue below average this week.
POSSUM, my kind of spring storm too.
GRAMMIE G, forecasters had talked about the possibility of some snow, but we were surprised to see it here earlier today. The daffodils seemed to survive well when we saw them later on our walk. The finches arrived a few weeks ago en masse.
Thanks LINDA and welcome. Come again anytime.
MONA, love your bird photos! And you can keep the snow and cold in Montana, thanks.
LINDA, yes I have recently been told that it's not unusual for daffodils in snow, When we lived in NJ we really didn't have many in the yard so I forgot. Yes, I like the butterfly photo as well - Thanks!
AC, same here - or so we thought.

I am visiting this late but I really am glad I was able to see all the bird photos. I want to get my tank filled for my grill so that the first warm day I can grill hamburgers.

I love that last shot of the butterfly! Hopefully you'll be able to sit out on that front porch again shortly.

Hi MARTY, nice to hear that. Hope you had fun too!

Thanks LARRY, hamburgers on the grill sound great. We have used ours already for steaks!

ELAINE, I enjoy watching and taking butterfly photos - lots more to come this spring and summer!
