Chicken Soup and Fresh Bread

What a day!!!! We started off with heavy rain this morning, moved to a nice sunny day, and now to gathering clouds. BUT a bowl of Beatrice's Chicken Soup and some fresh baked bread can solve any problem. We are considering kidnapping Kaydaffy and force feeding him this combination, and thus solving his the problems. We would even let him bring that dippy tent he likes so much.

Enough of the International Diplomacy. My part in today's feast was only100_0484 the bread. Yesterday Lois who writes From Lois' Hands had an interesting recipe for Wheat Bread. SOOO i copied it and today gave it a try. The only change i did was reverse the order of the ingredients going into our bread maker. NO I DID NOT bake the bread there, just let the machine do the initial mixing and kneading. I also didn’t use loaf pans, but then  i never do.This was really a nic100_0487e eas100_0486y recipe.

AND as usual Beatrice was right there as the loaf came out. Bread knife in right hand, spreader in the middle, and butter in the left. With enough Aloe her burnt finger tips will be OK by tomorrow morning. 100_0488

As the butter melted on those first slices and entered my mouth it just melted away. Add in our afternoon coffee and it was a treat for Frogs and Penguinns…

SO our suggestion is visit Lois’ page and try some fresh home made wheat bread. You may never go back to the store bought.

It is a good thing. Ouch don't touch the bread until it has cooled a little bit.

Wow, I'm glad it turned out well for you!! It looks great! I don't bake in the bread machine either.

I have more bread rising in the oven now. Another recipe, of course. I'm just up here in the sitting room to get my camera.... It'll be in an upcoming post. :)) Thanks for the plug!

Hugs,
Lois

There are very few things, if any, better than fresh homemade bread right out of the oven. Delicious photos too.

WOW!!!!! Mention a little thing like 'Fresh Bread' and everyone wakes up....
To all of you, YES it was delicious, light, and really tasty. BUT like Lois said in her post, it only stays fresh a short time. SOOOOO those of you with butter knife in hand better get here soon. I'm not sure how much longer i can fend off Beatrice :-)

If Kaydaffy could be soothed by your luncheon menu, I believe you could bring peace to the whole world. I eat far too much homemade bread and therefore do not make it anymore.

Nothing like the aroma of fresh baked bread. I am going to bake today and try baking the dough in cans instead of my usual clay pots or loaf pan. I will have to try her recipe.

I think your little ball of puffy goodness could make sweeten any sour disposition. That looks awesome.

oh yum, two of my favorites. Upon return home, I've got to get out the breadmaker, like you I use it to mix and fix and bake inthe oven....We stayed an extra day here in Tucson waiting out the storm that blew across I 10 from so. CA. Desert rain yesterday a total of .03 inch! Today looks better and there are things to do see here. But I still smell that baked bread and soup simmering!

I have not baked bread in so long! Looking at this made me want to get out the makings and go to work.

I get so tickled at Howard and garage sales. He just loves them..and the second hand stores. I have found that the books are now cheaper at the garage sales and usually go for a quarter. IF they are more..say, up to a dollar, and I really want the book I will buy it. Usually when they tell me the price (they are seldom marked) I say "would you take 50 cents and I have never been turned down. I always buy books in like new condition and only invest in the hard covers. Isn't it fun? Finding things of worth so inexpensively? :)
(wish I had a bread machine!)
Hugs,
Mona

Hi folks, I can assure you that Grenville's homemade bread was delicious (as good as the homemade chicken soup it was served with). THANKS for the visit and comments. We read and enjoy all of them and wish we could bread and soup to everyone! Y'all are welcome to stop into The Frog & PenguINN if you are ever visiting the VA eastern shore. Grenville will make a fresh loaf.

Abe, thanks for the post on Grease sandwiches.

Mona with all the yard/garage sales you and Howard get to, I'm surprised that you haven't found a bread machine yet - ours was a thrift store find; practically bread new for $5 - a real bargain a couple of years ago!

Oh that looks soooooo good! Thanks for stopping by. I haven't been across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in years. I didn't realize it was that expensive.
