Empty Box Special $24.99 & Up

WHO would pay $24.99 to $29.99 for a boxempty box (sans shipping)?
As noted in a recent post, I’m looking for a Nikon D90 digital SLR. While new is preferred, this seems to be a very popular model. It was introduced over 2 years ago and still commands a high resale value even for used models.
It’s SO popular that even the box is for sale – EMPTY!
Searching online has proved very amusing. Here are some actual eBay listings and photos – all were online over the past week.

Nikon D90 Empty Box Only. Nothing else is included, only the box. Although I listed the box as used, but it's really in excellent shape. No damage or cut off.

While I haven’t found a great deal on a used camera, the search continues. Most likely I will opt for a new D90 – hoping for a price drop if and when Nikon introduces a new model. Several photo forums have suggested this may happen in the next few months.
Luckily, I’m in no hurry and searching is always more fun than finding something.
Is that ever true for YOU?

Good grief. I didn't know the boxes had their own market. I need to get out more.

B, the things you come across.

Ha, I bet they took the photo with the camera then posted it online. I have never heard of such a thing.

Lois, neither did I until I started this online search - found the boxes only listed on ebay, so that does tell something about the "if you sell it...they will buy it" theory.

AC, it's amazingly simple too, maybe too easy.

Larry, you are probably right and maybe they needed the $ to PAY for the camera!

Kathleen, thanks and sooner or later I'll find the samera, but the looking is definitely fun at times.

The "anticipation" is always better!

And to think I just recycled some quality boxes. You should look at some photo mags at the library.

How strange :-) :-) :-) Wouldn´t it just be easier to call Nikon and ask them to send a new box? :-)

Yes sometimes the search is more fun than the actual thing :-) But I have to say that when I bought my camera having the camera was so much funnier :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

searching is no fun for me because i weigh the pros and cons and drive myself nuts trying to make a decision. my husband says i over think everything, and I do. this is to funny about the boxes, who knew, i sure did not. i hesitate to buy a used camera because what do you do if they sold it because it was worn out. my Rebel is 4 years old, but it has had more use in 4 years than most people use in a lifetime. it works good, but for how long. i prefer new and them sometimes it is a lemon, i got a nikon coopix lemon that i have threatened to throw in the pool. they are great cameras just not this one. good luck in your searching.

Mona, I couldn't agree more!

Steve, I will get my very own box when I eventually buy the camera, but mine will come with something in it as part of the cost :-) Yes, I have checked photo magazines, and years ago prices used to be pronted, but now it's a lot of hype and come-ons so I shop online - quicker and more choices.

Christer, I doubt whether Nikon would send an empty box. The folks trying to sell the boxes at online auctions are just trying to see if someone will actually buy one - none of these auctions had any bids! Yes, a search is fun and you are right about getting something being even better. Hope your day was a good one too.

Hi Sandra, you and I do much the same and your husband's comments sound similar to Grenville's who tells me to just buy something because he knows that I will resarch it to death looking for the best deal and features. He figures I could have saved a lot of time and been enjoying something sooner :-)
