Lighting the Way (Back When)

DSCN6908The antique autos we saw during our visit to the Owls Head Transportation Museum were really amazing. I was fascinated by the beauty of these antique automobile headlamps.

Other car parts were just as interesting. Imagine seeing these beautiful vehicles on today’s roads – NOT.

car parts collage It’s really so true that “they just don’t build them like they used to.”

I love these collages it's a great way to see these. We don't make anything with that kind of care or beauty any more.

Very unique collection, can we all remember polishing our cars.It has been a few cars ago for me.

Beatrice, you asked about my story background. All are taken from various families I have interviewed while working around prairie restoration and reclamation projects. I look for people who were multigenerational with their heritage in the same area. This family just registered a century farm, unfornately not their original homestead.

They really knew how to make beautiful cars back then!! I wish they knew that today too :-) :-)

Those are fascinating and beautiful. Even our cars are so "throw-away" now days, but that's what the market has driven (no pun intended). Love your montage.

We have some auto buffs in my area and every once in awhile I'll see one of the beauties out on the road. It's always a treat.
I loved the pictures...so much glitter makes every part of the car glamorous.

Hello all glad you all enjoyed seeing these vintage images - they are beautiful and it's for certain the cars of today are nowhere near these in "looks" and price too!

Country Mouse - thanks again for the comment and visit - glad you enjoyed!

Out on the Prairie, I still enjoy washing and polishing my car! Thanks for txplaining how you get your story info - enjoy reading them but may fall a bit behind till we get back home next week.

Thanks Lois - as always!

Christer, so do I wish car makers today followed some of the practices of years ago. There was certainly some good workmanship back then. Thanks for the comments.

Yes Scott, it crtainly is a sad commentary that today most things are "throw aways" even cars. My Jeep was recently involved in an accident and I was really scared the insurance co. would "total" a 3-yr old Jeep Liberty vs. paying for repair costs. Thankfully, that was not the case and I should have my car ready when we return home next week.

Ginnie, these oldies are a treat and I have had the same thoughts whenever I've seen one out on the roads, which is infrequently. More often they can be seen at car shows or in museums such as these. It's great to be able to see them wherever I can.

I really like the headlamps and grilles. I have many many closeups of the lovely details on old cars. The montages are great!

Elaine, these antique cars are such great subjects. I took way more photos than possible to show on the blog. The parts are just as interesting as the whole with these subjects.
