Oodles of Woodles

 What’s a WOODLE ?

Darned if we knew, so after laughing ourselves silly, which doesn’t take much some days, we decided to conduct an online search for the term “woodle.”

Little did we know WHAT we would learn – a LOT!

One online definition of woodle: An exclamation of delight or amazement, for example, "I was so happy to get this gift"  or  "Today is going to be cooler and in the 60s!" Wish that was true here.

A kids site defined woodle as a verb meaning wiggle as: “Make sure you woodle.”

A couple of  online" “urban” dictionaries defined woodle as referring to parts of the male and female anatomy. We won’t go there.

But, many sites defined a woodle as – are you ready? - a hybrid dog. Why not? There are hybrid cars, bikes, veggies and other things hybrid, so why not animals?

A Woodle dog is a cross between a Welsh Terrier and a Poodle. And, should you wonder why this cross doesn’t result in a “mutt” it’s because hybrid refers to a dog that is not purebred, but the lineage is known. But “mutt” refers to a dog with unknown lineage. Hmmm and to think that all these years some mutts were just hybrids.

Lucy woodleSp what does a Woodle look like? woodle puppyHere’s a couple of Woodle cuties found online. Sorry I couldn’t resist…OK could, but didn’t want to cause this was too much fun!

ryan woodle actor Lots of folks are listed online with a last carol woodle oprah imname of Woodle, including an actor (left), artist, a doctor who heads transplant surgery, and a celebrity impersonator. No, this is NOT Oprah.

One online site claimed that it could provide information on the Woodle Family Crest and Name History. Of course, you have to pay for more than the brief synopsis provided: Following the Norman Conquest of England after 1066, the Woodle family name was brought to the British Isles. They lived in Devon at Woodleigh. A person was often referred to by several different spellings in a single lifetime. The various spellings include Woodley, Woodleigh, Woodlief and others. Needless to sat, more info was not needed.

But the most important clue about the term Woodle is that it is connected with The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio – same state on the license plate.  The term was listed on the school’s site and seems to be a computer program for course enrollment. Do Wooster students woodle courses?

Curiousity about the College led to more research. This 240-acre liberal arts college, founded in 1866, is located in a town of 26,000 residents with a student body of 2,000 (54% women, 46% men ). Student faculty ratio is 11 to 1. School nickname is Fighting Scots. Tuition, room & board is over $45,600; 95% of students receive financial aid. No wonder woodling is costly at Wooster.

WOW ! All this fun from just seeing a license plate. We’re so easily amused that we woodled ourselves sillier. (If that’s possible.)

Isn't there a song about this???????
"We were woodling along, on woodle light bay...."
OR "II'm in the mood for woodles, simply because you're near me...."

Hi AC - I LIKE that wood and does it translate to move along - GREAT. Maybe we can have an online contest with NO prizes - just fun-created words. How about yours being the first entry?

Yes Mona, we got such a chuckle out of this license plate that it lead to more than most folks could ever imagine, but then we're not like "most" folks as you probably already know :-)

Well that was one woodle of a post. I noticed my spell checker didn't like woodle, but that won't show up in the final. I have a Hybrid dog that some call a Moodle - I like to call her a Pootese.

What type of Pootese dog do you have Scott? Yes, this post was just oodles of woodle fun!

Who knew that woodle was even a word? Don't you just love the English language?

I find the verification words that pop up on blogger to be very interesting at times, and they just beg for a definition. Perhaps another contest?

Yes Elaine, the English language is truly amazing - just imagine how complicated this word would be for non-speaking English folks to translate. Good idea for another contest and several entries would really be fun!
