Pineapple-Orange Smoothie

What would you think about a shake to start the day?
Sounds like a good idea to Grenville and I too. So smoothies have become a breakfast staple here. This one was  Grenville’s birthday treat last week.

orange-pineapple smoothie (4)Blending fruit together is way more fun than fixing a fruit cup. You just toss everything together and blend away – easy! Our Braun® stick blender was feeling neglected with the recent purchase of a new Kitchen Aid® immersion blender, so it was the “tool” of choice.
orange-pineapple smoothie (7) We always have several types of fresh fruit at the F&P

This one was made with: 1 C orange juice,
1 banana, ½ C  canned pineapple, ¼ to ½ C vanilla yogurt.

I’ve been tastily experimenting with smoothie ingredients and found out that amounts can vary – according to what’s in the house, and personal taste too. And, if the fruit is sweet enough, there’s no need to add sugar. The canned pineapple added enough natural sweetness to this blend. Vanilla flavoring is a nice additive too.

My smoothie ingredients have included:  bananas, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, kiwi, yogurt (vanilla usually) and either orange juice or milk – usually 1 C.

Works for us . . . How about You?

I like smoothies too. I usually just use yogurt, a banana, and whatever fresh or frozen fruit I have, and crushed ice. The frozen fruit actually works best as it makes for a thicker smoothie and I like them nice and thick. Hubby usually wants his milkshakes so the spoon will stand up in them, and that's about right for the smoothie too.

We did your ratatouille for supper tonight and enjoyed it. Thanks. We had it hot and just topped our dishes with cheese rather than the whole thing.

Elaine, a banana, yogurt and fresh fruit are always in our smoothies too - but I do also add either milk or orange huice (not both). I did add some ice once but neither of us liked it. Frozen fruit sounds like a good idea and maybe when I can't get any fresh I'll try some. The canned pineapple works great.

Hey AC - glad to know you tried the ratatoille - good stuff and very healthy too...just never tell the grandkids that.

This sounds so yummy! Banana and strawberry combos are my faves.

I don´t know why I make smoothies so seldome. It´s usually during summers it happens, but none so far. Yoghurt is great to have in it, but I love sour milk and we have all kinds of flavours on that over here. My favourite sourmilk is Strawberry/blueberry Yumm :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

hi....i make smoothies for my gang every morning too! i finally found a good use for all of my canned peaches!
i use a big round pan, about 16 inches wide and about 2 inches deep, for my tians. you can use a deep dish pie pan or even a 9x12. they sink a lot as they cook! so though they start out high they cook down to half their size. if you have anymore questions when you make them just ask! they are soooo good!

Shelley it is wonderful and we include bananas with whatever other fruit is being added.

Christer, sour milk doesn't sound appealing and can't say I've ever tried it myself and assume it differs from yogurt...is is less thick as well?

Octoberfarm - THANKS so much for the info on making a tian posted on your blog. We will definitely try this by the weekend as Grenville was out harvesting veggies today. Is there any specific type of potato you used cause the slices looked large. And we will be making good use of the mandolin too - veggie slicer not musical.
