Short Day Harvesting Eel Grass

Today was a really short harvesting day. We left at 7am but by the time we got out to the harvest grounds we were facing an in coming tide. Add in a 8-12- knot SW wind that had been blowing all night and the turbidity was so great you could hardly see your hand in front of you. Last but not least the plants have ripened very quickly over the last several days and are at the point of dropping their seeds. By 10 am the tide had gone from below waist level to chest level, which puts the plants just out of arms reach. AND when you did reach them you could not see the seeds that weren't there to begin with.

Today was probably my last day for this year as all next week has been canceled. BUT on the bright side we have managed to fill all of our tanks here on the ES and most of the tanks at VIMS in Gloucester Point. This should insure a large amount of seeds for distribution in the fall.

Tomorrow is is back to land farming (that i have been neglecting). BUT now off for a good nights sleep.

Sounds like a busy day! But any day spent around the water is pretty good...

I sure do like the looks of your place there! Have to do some catching up and see what I have been missing out on!

Thanks Hermit Jim for dropping in. Grenville is the eel grass harvester and he does live being in and around the water so he would agree with your comment. Please do poke around our little place and "Y'all come back real soon" (per Jed Clampitt). We're having lots of fun!

To all,
The harvest is over. The seeds were droping when i was out there adn all our tanks are full. AND we do have aq little of 'the recipe' left around, but we are being a little stingy since we have no more Beach Plums for the squezzens.
